EcoSpace
Waste, Reimagined
The Vision
In the Swartland town of Riebeek-Kasteel, Louis and his partner Hardy Olivier have created EcoSpace – the world’s first private residence built entirely from commercial ZeroCrete waste. Working with engineer Johan Coetzee, they transformed thousands of kilograms of discarded fabric, plastic, and glass into the resilient, striking materials that shape every wall, floor, and surface of the home. More than a residence, EcoSpace stands as proof that sustainability and style are not opposing forces, but partners in the making of something extraordinary.
Second Life
For Louis, ZeroCrete became another material to create with – no different, in spirit, from paint or canvas. Made from recycled industrial waste, it offered an unexpected freedom: walls that could resemble ancient stone, surfaces finished with crushed abalone shell, furniture shaped entirely by imagination rather than convention. Hardy shared that same instinct for transformation and together they turned discarded fabric, plastic and glass into the walls, floors, and furnishings of their home.
Rough & Refined
Inside, ZeroCrete takes on a different character again – its raw, textured surfaces shifting from room to room, sometimes rugged, sometimes polished to a soft sheen. Vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, and open, light-filled spaces give the home a quiet, considered rhythm throughout. It’s a home built with the same instinct Louis and Hardy have brought to every space they’ve shared—an eye for how a room should feel, not just how it should look.
